Day 1 – Saskatchewan to Brooks, AB
Start your journey early in the morning from Regina, Saskatchewan, picking up additional guest along our route. Ensure you have everything packed and ready for your adventure across Alberta. Visit Brooks Aqueduct, a remarkable historical landmark and a National and Provincial Heritage Site. Built in the early 1900s, it played a key role in the irrigation system that allowed farming to thrive in the region. The aqueduct offers impressive views and is a great spot for learning about the history of irrigation in Alberta. End your day with a short drive to Brooks, for an overnight stay.

Day 2 – Brooks to Drumheller
A day filled with natural beauty, history, and unique stops. First stop the Bassano Dam, a significant engineering landmark and a Provincial Heritage Site. Built in 1913, it played a crucial role in the development of irrigation systems in southern Alberta, and it offers stunning views and interpretive signs explaining its history. Next, drive to the small rural town of Rosebud, founded in 1885! An adorable community that feels a million miles away. Fresh air, beautiful scenery, and welcoming smiles at every turn. Enjoy a wonderful lunch before taking in a wonderful live performance at the Rosebud Theatre. After the performance take some time to walk along the quaint streets and visit locally owned shops and art galleries before heading to Drumheller for a two night stay.

Day 3 – Drumheller
Spend the morning exploring the Royal Tyrrell Museum, in Drumheller, one of the most renowned paleontology museums in the world, known for its impressive dinosaur exhibits. In the afternoon, head to the Passion Play site, located a short drive from Drumheller. The Canadian Badlands Passion Play is one of the largest outdoor theatrical performances in Canada and takes place in a natural amphitheater set against the beautiful landscape of the Badlands. Enjoy an outdoor performance that dramatizes the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The play is performed in a stunning open-air venue with live actors, elaborate costumes, and spectacular scenery, making for a deeply moving and immersive experience.

Day 4 – Drumheller to Stettler
Ready for another exciting day of exploration in the Alberta Badlands? Your first stop is the Hoodoos, a stunning natural formation just a short drive from Drumheller. These tall, spire-shaped rock formations have been carved by erosion over thousands of years and are one of the most iconic sights in the area. A walk around the Hoodoos offers great photo opportunities and a chance to appreciate this unique landscape. Next, head to the Swinging Bridge (Star Mine Suspension Bridge). Located near the Drumheller Gorge, the historic pedestrian Suspension Bridge spans the Red Deer River and offers splendid views of the surrounding area. It is a fun and scenic spot to explore before continuing on your journey. Travel along 11 Bridges Road to the ghost town of Wayne, this stretch of road is especially famous for its scenic beauty and has a rich mining history. At one time Wayne was a thriving coal mining town, when the industry crashed in the 1930s, Wayne was reduced to nothing more than a few souls and remains that way. Today, Wayne is known for being the location of the famous Last Chance Saloon and the haunted Rosedeer Hotel, your lunch stop today. More beautiful views of the Alberta countryside as you travel northward towards Stettler and Big Valley for a unique experience—aboard the Big Valley Steam Train! The train ride is a fun, nostalgic experience that takes you back in time to the golden era of rail travel. Providing picturesque views of the surrounding countryside, concluding with a delicious Homestyle Dinner.

Day 5 – Stettler to Fort Saskatchewan
The historic city of Fort Saskatchewan is your first stop, just minutes northeast of Edmonton. Easy to access and home to exciting attractions. Visit Fort Heritage Precinct, an amazing recreation of an NWMP fort from yesteryear. Enjoy a Guided Tour, gaining so many fascinating facts and insights into the history and development of Fort Saskatchewan. You will be whisked back in time to imagine yourself as a constable climbing the bastion to view the surrounding landscape. After exploring the Fort, hop forward in time to the historical village where you can imagine yourself as a student in the 1902 Castle School, visualize life as a settler in the early 20th century, and see how the town doctor lived in the 1920s. You can also explore Fort Saskatchewan’s history of law and order at the 1909 Courthouse and 1937 Warden’s Residence. Be inspired by the work of those who came before us and learn how their work influenced the region. Next, a grown-up Fort Saskatchewan experience, a tour of The Fort Distillery followed by a tasting of their unique handcrafted spirits. Gather with your fellow travellers on your last evening together for an informal Farewell.

Day 6 – Fort Saskatchewan to Home
Today, enjoy a relaxing drive with scenic views and the familiar wide-open spaces that Saskatchewan is known for! Bidding farewell to our newfound friends at various stops along the way.

Brooks Aqueduct
The Brooks Aqueduct is an impressive reinforced concrete structure over 3.1 kilometres in length featuring a large flume mounted on 20-metre high columns. The site also includes an inverted siphon that carried water under the CPR main line.

Bassano Dam
All the water delivered through the irrigation system of the Eastern Irrigation District is diverted from the Bow River at the Bassano Dam. The 1,200 irrigation farmers received their water through a system of 4,800 kilometers of canals and drains and thirteen internal storage reservoirs.
