Day 1 – Home City to Deer Lake, NL

Welcome to Newfoundland! Make your way to the hotel for a free evening. 

Lobster Cove Head Lighthouse

Day 2 – Deer Lake to Plum Point

Depart for Gros Morne National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with visits to the Discovery Centre and Broom Point. Travel by water taxi from Woody Point to Norris Point on way to Lobster Cove Head Lighthouse, offering a great view of Bonne Bay and the surrounding mountains. Then head north for a good ole Newfoundland ‘Mug Up’ at our home for the night in Plum Point.

L’Anse aux Meadows

Day 3 – Plum Point to St. Anthony

Depart Plum Point for L’Anse aux Meadows National Historic Site. This was the home of Leif the Lucky and the Viking people who settled here. Tour the reconstructed sod huts as animators recreate daily life at the site.  Arriving in St. Anthony, a small town on the northern reaches of the Great Northern Peninsula, visit the Grenfell home and the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital to view the Jordi Bonet Murals. The murals tell the story of the Grenfell Mission named for famous medical missionary Sir Wilfred Grenfell. Dinner tonight will be a Viking Feast in a replica of Leif the Lucky’s home.

Red Bay

Day 4 – St. Anthony to L'Anse-Au-Clair

Ride the ferry through Iceberg Alley making way to Labrador. With an opportunity to marvel at the sight of majestic icebergs and breaching whales. Visit Red Bay National Historic Site, World Whaling Capital, A.D.1550-1600. At the Visitor Centre, experienced guides will interpret the Basque whaling activity in the area during the 16th century. 

Point Armour Lighthouse

Day 5 – L'Anse-Au-Clair to Rocky Harbour

A visit to Point Amour Lighthouse Provincial Historic Site, if you’re up to the challenge, climb the 122 steps to the top of this castle-like structure, the tallest lighthouse in Atlantic Canada.  Saying good-bye to Labrador as you board the ferry back to Newfoundland. Stop at Arches Provincial Park, to view a natural rock archway created by eons of tidal action.  Arriving in Rocky Harbour, check into your hotel for a two-night stay!

Day 6 – Rocky Harbour

A relaxing day to explore the area on your own. Visit the local craft shops and restaurants of Rocky Harbour or get out and explore. You might enjoy a boat tour on Western Brook Pond, a landlocked fjord carved by glaciers, and home to dramatic cliffs, plenty of waterfalls, and a serene lake. It offers a unique and awe-inspiring natural experience that you won't want to miss when exploring the rugged beauty of Newfoundland's west coast. Tonight, be prepared to tap your toes and sing along with a band of local musicians as they perform some of Newfoundland & Labradors lively, traditional songs at the popular Anchors Aweigh Show.

Atlantic Aviation Museum

Day 7 – Rocky Harbour to Gander

Depart this morning for Grand Falls-Windsor, visiting the Salmonid Interpretation Centre, a fabulous place to watch Atlantic salmon as they migrate to their spawning grounds. Then on to Gander, often called the “Crossroads of the World,” it has been an aviation town since the 1930s, visit the Atlantic Aviation Museum that tells the story.

Long Point Lighthouse

Day 8 – Gander to Clarenville

At Boyd’s Cove visit the Beothuk Interpretation Centre, tour the centre where exhibits and artifacts foster an appreciation for this unique, and now vanished culture. In Twillingate visit the Prime Berth Historic Fishing Village, learn the history and culture of the area by visiting this living history museum, and then on to Long Point Lighthouse built in 1876. Depart Twillingate for Clarenville and overnight.  Stopping en-route at Gambo, the birthplace of Joseph R. Smallwood, the first Premier of the province and one of the original “Fathers of Confederation”. Our stop includes Joey’s Lookout.

Trinity

Day 9 – Clarenville

Today continue your journey to Trinity and Bonavista. Most of the old town of Trinity is a national heritage district, and there are several provincial historic sites to visit such as Hiscock House Provincial Historic SiteLester Garland Premises Provincial Historic Site, Lester Garland House/Wessex Learning Centre, and St. Paul’s Anglican Church. While in Trinity stop by the Green Family Forge Blacksmith Museum, and the Trinity Museum and Archives as well as the Trinity Interpretation Centre.  Then travel back into history to the voyage of John Cabot. He sailed from England to Newfoundland landing at Cape Bonavista in 1497. One of the “must-sees” is Cape Bonavista Lighthouse Provincial Historic Site which has been restored to its original 1843 condition. Other stops include the monument to John Cabot located near the lighthouse, Ryan Premises National Historic Site – which includes the Bonavista Museum and the Dungeon Provincial Park, a collapsed sea cave.  A special treat this evening, an authentic Newfoundland Screech In.

Signal Hill

Day 10 – Clarenville to St. John's

Travel to St. John’s, the capital city, on the way visit Heart’s Content Cable station. Over 150 years ago, the first successful transatlantic telegraph cable was landed at Heart's Content, changing the way we communicate.  This little Newfoundland town leaped into the history books and remained a global communications hub for over a century. The cable station is a time capsule of the communications technology that connected us all right up to the 1960s.This afternoon enjoy a guided tour of the city including Signal Hill National Historic Site, Government House, Anglican Cathedral, and the Cape Spear National Historical Site.

St John's

Day 11 – St. John's

Depart St. John’s for a boat tour of the Witless Bay Ecological Reserve. Composed of four small islands, this reserve is one of nature's greatest wonders. Home to hundreds of thousands of seabirds that come to the islands to nest and raise their young. Humpback and Minke whales are known to frequent the water here and you might spot an iceberg or two! Join your fellow travellers for the WestWorld Tours farewell dinner this evening.

Sadly, all good things come to an end. Transfer to the airport on your own time.
